What is musical freedom?
Freedom is the ultimate goal of an artist, certainly of every performer, in fact, the human spirit in general. Freedom is a feeling of safety, possibility, and belonging. But in music what is it that we can belong to? Where is the safety, the possibility in our performances and improvisations?
Training the mind to first locate the gateway to freedom, and then practicing its access at home is the beginning of a thrilling creative journey.
What does musical freedom feel like?
Finding joy in your practice
Reaching new and unprecedented levels of fulfillment
A creative reboot using new strategies
“The artist must forget the audience, forget the critics, forget the technique, forget everything but love for the music.”
- Mstislav Rostropovich
Fear, as manifested in performance anxiety and creative blocks, is the number one hurdle to musical flow and can be addressed at its core level. Our beautiful minds – so capable of judging and analyzing – need the creative calm and confidence from a deeper source: the heart.
